The Color Red
Red is the color of good luck in the Chinese culture.
This is why Chinese brides usually wear red, instead of the western tradition
of wearing white. It is the color of luck. Many things, including
firecrackers, lucky paper, and food, are dyed red to symbolically represent
the luck people hope to have. Red is a color that is highly
associated with China, and in fact, most of the web sites about China that
I have seen are covered with the color. Much of the wedding customs
have to do with red and you can read about that at http://www.chcp.org/Vwedding.html

White is another color that is highly symbolic.
It represents death and mourning. This makes the western custom of
wearing dark colors to funerals seem very strange. Colors seem to
represent many things in many different cultures. A good place to
find the significance of these colors is at The
Symbolism of Colors.
