What is Factiva?
Factiva is an online subscription service produced by Dow Jones, publisher of the Wall Street Journal in partnership with Reuters, a major European publisher. It contains full-text content for over 8,000 newspapers, magazines, and trade journals. Factiva also offers investment information and public-company financial data, analysis, company screening, and stock quotes. (NOTE: Factiva is limited to CSU Chico students and faculty; it requires Explorer and does not work with Netscape or Mac browsers.)

Company Quick Search

Current & Historical Stock Quotes

  • Display your company's page from Company Quick Search. (Follow the instructions above.)
  • Click on "Quotes" and select a date range using the pull-down menu. (Daily prices for past 2 years; weekly & monthly for the past 5 years.)
  • Company Screening

  • Go to Factiva from the Meriam Library ReSEARCH Station > Articles & Databases (http://www.csuchico.edu/lref/guides/rbn/).
  • Select Companies/Markets and click on Company Screening .
  • Input criteria for industry, location, price and share data, ratios, dividend and growth, etc. After each selection, click on Submit
  • Continue selecting criteria within other relevant categories, clicking Submit after each.
  • When you have completed your selections, click on "Get List" (basic).
  • Download or print your list. (To research the particulars about each company, look them up in Company Quick Search.)
  • Top Newspaper & Magazine Headlines

  • Move your cursor to "News Pages" on the dark gray bar.
  • Select "Factiva Pages". Then use the pull-down menu to select United States (or another News Page of your choice)
  • From the U.S. News Page, you will see the following publications: Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Washington Post, Business Week, Barrons, Forbes, etc. (Some issues are not full-text due to publisher limitations.)
  • Use the pull-down menus to choose an issue or to select a section ( front page, editorial, cover story, etc.)
  • Search for articles

  • Search within the full-text of over 8,000 newspapers and magazines from all over the world
  • Select "intelligent indexing" to target searches by topic or region or source (journal title)
  • Search for company names in "headline and lead paragraph" not in "full article" (from the pull-down menu).
  • Select a date range (from the pull-down menu).
  • To search within a specific journal title, use sn (source name). Example: sn=forbes and global warming
  • Downloading, printing and emailing results

  • Click on the floppy disk icon ("format for saving")
  • From the File menu, select "save as"
  • Select "A" Drive and key in a file name
  • To save in Excel format, use .xls extension: macdonalds.xls. To save in plain text format, select .txt: macdonalds.txt.
  • Print

  • Click on the printer icon
  • To print from in the lab or library, you will need money on your Wildcat card.
  • Email

  • Click on the envelope icon
  • Key in your email address.
