2002-2003 Coaching Staff

Director of Forensics,
Kristina Schriver

Since 1998, Kristina Schriver has been directing the Speech & Debate Program. Dr. Schriver received her doctorate in Speech Communication from Florida State University. At FSU, she coached debate teams to the final round of the Cross Examination Debate National Tournament and two teams to quarterfinals. At CSU, Chico, she has enjoyed watching the program grow and finish high in the national rankings. Dr. Schriver was recently elected as 2nd Vice President of the Cross Examination Debate Association and the Northern California Forensics Association honored Dr. Schriver as Director of the Year in 2002.

Individual Events Director, Christopher Howerton

Christopher joined the faculty at CSU, Chico after completing his Masters degree in 2002. While working on his graduate degree, Christopher worked with the forensics team and was awarded Outstanding Teaching Associate by the Communication Arts & Sciences department. Christopher's extensive expertise in theatre has greatly enhanced student performances in Prose, Poetry, Dramatic Interpretation, and Duo.

Aaron Hess

Having successfully competed for CSU, Chico for 3 years, Aaron joined the coaching staff in 2001. Aaron enjoys working with beginning debaters' and helping them develop both the skills and love of argumentation. Aaron was named Critic of the Year by the Cross Examination Debate Association. He is currently working on his Master's thesis.

Teaching Associate,
Kris Willis

Kris Willis enjoyed an illustrous debate carreer at Arkansas State University. He was a national caliber debater for ASU and took the 9th place speaker award at the national debate tournament his senior year. Kris brings his considerable experience and intellect to the debate program. He also teaches Argumentation & Debate for the Department.

Teaching Associate,
Sheila Kuhnley

Sheila graduated from Penn State University in 2001 with a degree in political science and speech communication. She competed in numerous forensics events throughout her educational career. While pursuing a Masters degree, Sheila will coach students in Individual Events.

 

 

 

 

 

Sierra Nevada
Chico State Forensics will host the Sierra Nevada Invitational on Jan 29- Feb. 1st. The tournament features superb hospitality, high quality trophies, a relaxed schedule, and a beautiful location. Please consider putting the Sierra Nevada on your spring schedule.
