Roadrunner Tournament a Runaway for Chico State
CSU, Chico Foresnics soundly secured a 1st place finish at the Butte
College Roadrunner Invitational on Oct 24-26, 2003. Mike Spelfinger
was the top overall speaker via his 1st place finishes in Informative
Speaking, Duo, and After Dinner Speaking and a 2nd place finsh in Prose.
The team won the sweepstakes award and the following individual awards:
Hugo Allen-1st place, Drama & Prose
Matt Popish-1st place, Communication Analysis
Jacklyn Kucinski-1st place, Programmed Interp
Rachel Perahia-2nd place, Persuasive
Todd Stansbury-2nd place, POI & 3rd in After Dinner Speaking
Anna Funk-5th place, Prose, 1st place, Duo
Justin Meath-4th place, Prose

JV debaters sweep Santa Rosa Tournament
Chico State debaters swept the Junior Varisty division at the Santa Rosa
Junior College Invitational on Oct 3-5, 2003. Ken Dandy
and Amy Jones with Liz Gourley and Esther
Johnson closed out the JV division break out debates. Chico State
was awarded the top 4 speaking awards at the tournament. Victoria
Riordan was the top speaker followed by Liz Gourley, 2nd; Brea
Jones, 3rd; and Amy Jones in 4th place. Chekechea Pryor
and Victoria Riordan's preliminary record earned them a spot in the varsity
division semifinals. Ken Dandy scored another impressive performance with
a 5th place speaking award in the varisty division.

Individual Events particpants also earned distinction. Hugo Allen
was the 1st place finisher in Dramatic Interpretation. Todd Stansbury,
at his first tournament, earned the top spot in novice After Dinner Speaking
and Mike Spelfinger was the 3rd place award winner in
Prose.

Fresno Raisin Center, Sept. 21-24, 2003
Chico State started the 2003 competitive season at CSU, Fresno on Sept
19-21. 20 students traveled to the Fresno Raisin Center Invitational and
many brought back trophies. The list of award winners include:
