Academic Advising Student Interns


Major: Psychology
Minor: Political Science

Angel is currently in his junior at Chico State and is a first generation college student. He spends most of his free time getting involved on campus or at the WREC playing basketball. During his time at Chico he has been involved with many programs such as R.E.A.C.H., Summer Orientation and C.L.I.C. His goal is to attend graduate school and obtain his Master’s Degree or attend Law School. His hopes are to work for a federal law enforcement agency under the umbrella of the Department of Justice. Through his experiences at Chico State, Angel has learned that he is passionate about helping others succeed in all aspects of what they do. He is very friendly and approachable so don’t be afraid to stop by and say hi!

Angelica Angelica

Major: Animal Science

Angelica is currently in her second year at Chico state. She joined Academic Advising as an intern in spring 2016.  Angelica enjoys working with animals and is pursuing a degree in Animal Science while completing prerequisites for Vet school. Throughout her two years at Chico Angelica has been involved in many campus organizations including, CAVE, HSF Up ‘til Dawn and has worked for Upward Bound as a high school tutor.  Angelica loves playing with her Border Collie dog, Romeo, and spending quality time with her family. Angelica enjoys traveling around the world and has a list of places she plans to visit someday.

Cristian Cristian

Major: Biology

Cristian is currently a second year student at Chico State. As a first generation college student Cristian has been involved in several organizations including EOP and ETS. Being in these programs motivated Cristian to work in advising as an intern to help students with their academics. His future goals are to attend medical school after majoring in biology, and to one day work as a pediatrician. He loves nature and being in the outdoors. Cristian’s hobbies include hiking, running, and art.

Dana is currently a second year at Chico State.  She joined the Academic Advising Programs as an intern in the spring of 2015 and hopes to obtain a BA in Anthropology.  Since being here at Chico, she has been involved in Up 'Til Dawn, LeadCat, and C.A.V.E. programs, such as Special Pals and weekend emersion trips.  Dana’s hobbies include volleyball, listening to music, arts and crafts, hiking, and spending time with friends outdoors.

Daniel Daniel

Major: Criminal Justice & Public Administration

Daniel Beaky, a 3rd year student and double majoring in Criminal Justice and Public Administration, plans to apply for Officer Training School in the United States Air Force after graduation. His long term goal is a career in the Federal Government. Daniel has been on CAVE Staff for three years, an Officer for the Criminal Justice Student Association, a member of the Criminal Justice Honors Society, and worked with the First Year Experience Office on the Book in Common. When Daniel is not in class, volunteering, or at work he could be found mountain biking, hiking, or exploring Chico. Some fun facts about Daniel is he is an adrenaline junkie and does not sit still very often, his family fosters rescued pit bulls, and he hopes to be a positive influence for Chico State students through Academic Advising.


Major: Communication Sciences and Disorders

Drea is a first generation college student and currently in her third year at Chico State. Drea hopes to go on to graduate school, become a Speech-Language Pathologist, and work with children and their special needs. When Drea is not working on academics, you can find her involved on campus in multiple organizations (NSSLHA- Junior Representative & NSLS- Community Service Chair), engaging in community service within her community, or working to meet the individualized care of her patients. Her passion is helping others that cross her path and learning about their cultures, as well as spending time with her family.  

Gerson Gerson

Major: Anthropology

A junior, Gerson transferred from Santa Ana Community College in Orange County Fall 2015. Since coming to Chico State, Gerson has been part of Chico State’s radio station (KCSC) as a DJ and promotions staff. Additionally, Gerson has been active in LEAD, a club for undocumented students and allies of the immigrant movement; joined an action committee working to help push for the creation of a DREAM resource center in our school; worked on anthropological research on healthcare access for immigrant students, and joined the Academic Advising team! Gerson is fascinated by human ecology and technology, and hopes to focus that fascination into a future career in anthropology! Anime, children’s fiction, video games and dystopian comic books are the things he dedicates most of his free time to. Current obsession: Saga by Brian Vaughan and Fiona Staples.

Graciela Graciela

Major: Pre-Nursing

Graciela is a sophomore at Chico State. She was born in Mexico and came to the United States at the age of three. She is hoping to major in Nursing and maybe get a minor in Health and Wellness. After obtaining a BS in Nursing Graciela hopes to continue her education and apply to a graduate program. Graciela is also in EOP; that experience inspired her to want to work with students as an Academic Advising Intern. Overall, Graciela is extremely excited to aid students with their goals and educational dreams. 


Major: Recreation Administration: Event Management
Minor: Photographic Studies

Jessica is a 4th year student at Chico State. She is the first person in her family to attend college and hopes to be the first to graduate from college. She is majoring in Recreation Administration with an emphasis in Event Management where she hopes to work in large scale events. She is a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority on campus and has held many leadership positions within her sorority. She loves Chico's many opportunities for outdoor activities. When she isn't at work or in class she is hiking with her puppy in Upper Bidwell. Some of the things that she can't live without are peanut butter, cheesecake, and adventure. She hopes to become a helping hand for students of all variations through Academic Advising and be able to learn more about advising.

Jovani Jovani

Major: Criminal Justice

Minor: Spanish

Jovani, a first generation college student and a part of EOP, is currently a third year at Chico State and is looking forward to being the first in his family to graduate from college. As an academic advising intern, Jovani is looking forward to serving the diverse student population at Chico State. His future goals are to attend graduate school and ultimately work closely with the crime investigation aspect of law enforcement. Jovani is outgoing and has a very entertaining personality. Since his time at Chico, Jovani has been involved with C.A.V.E (Community Action Volunteers in Education), REACH (Raising Educational Achievement in Collaborative Hubs) and S.T.O.P (Stop Trafficking Of Persons!). He has a passion for food and loves to cook, his favorite food is pepperoni pizza and caesar salad. In his spare time Jovani enjoys spending time with friends and family, playing basketball, working out and especially loves to explore the wilderness.

KaoLee is a transfer student from Butte College. With a junior standing class level here at CSU, Chico, she is currently majoring in Psychology with a minor in Child Development. KaoLee joined Academic Advising as an intern in Spring 2015. She is eager to help students excel and achieve their academic career. With the help and support that she has received from many advisers, KaoLee is inspired to assist students and help them achieve their goals in education.  KaoLee is striving to become a school counselor because she wants to make a positive difference in students’ lives. Outside from school, KaoLee enjoys going on hikes and hanging out at coffee shops with her family and friends. She also is optimistic about joining the Peace Corps one day.

Kendall transferred to CSU, Chico and graduated Fall 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies. She chose her major because she loves interacting with others and strives to promote the strengthening of communication skills and a healthy lifestyle. Coming to Chico as a first-generation, low-income transfer student, she felt lost and alone. Taking initiative, building relationships, and becoming involved is her best advice. Her educational experience has driven her to guide students in a successful direction with her motivational attitude and knowledge of campus resources. In the last year she has been involved and served leadership roles in many organizations on campus including Adventure Outings, REACH, First-Year Experience, and Upward Bound. Through her educational experience, she has developed skills working with a diverse population of students. Her future goals are to attend graduate school and ultimately instruct or advise students at the college level. She is passionate about helping others succeed academically, emotionally, and physically. Outside of academics Kendall enjoys trailblazing, stargazing, and yoga. She also crafts dream-catchers for fun and has an undeniable passion for donuts. Her adventurous spirit exemplifies her desire try new things and meet new people.

Lauren is currently in her second year at CSU, Chico and joined the Academic Advising Programs as an intern in Spring 2014. Her goal for the future is to obtain a masters or doctorate degree in Speech-Language Pathology and work with children in a clinical setting. Lauren is an absolute animal lover and coffee connoisseur. She also loves hiking, spending time with friends and family, baking, and dancing.

Perri Perri

Major: Sociology

Perri is currently a second semester transfer student at Chico State. She is pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Sociology.  She transferred to Chico from the Bay Area were she attended and completed all of her general education classes at Diablo Valley College. As well as being an intern here in the Academic Advising Program office, she is involved in the club S.T.O.P  ( Stop Trafficking of Persons), which focuses on bringing awareness to the issues of human trafficking on both a local and national scale. Perri is very excited to help other students navigate through their education and assist in achieving their educational goals! During her spare time Perri thoroughly enjoys spending quality time with her loved ones, drinking green tea and traveling around the Bay Area, in addition to other areas of California!

Robert is a first generation college student and is a part of EOP.  His inspirations come from the advisors that he met during his Summer Bridge experience, and during that time, it sparked his interest in helping other students.  He strives to be an advisor in the future to help students find their paths in college.  Since working in Academic Advising Programs, he has found passion in working in higher education and hopes to one day to pursue this passion after earning his undergraduate degree.  In September 2014, his passion for helping students led him to sit on the council for Diversity Affairs. His hope is to promote diversity on our campus and to get students to become more involved.  His short term goal is to graduate and continue on helping people in any way shapes and form.

Roopinder Roopinder

Major: Recreation Administration: Recreation Therapy

Minor: Sociology

Roopinder is a 4th year student at Chico State. She hopes to become a Recreational Therapist who specializes in animal assisted therapy. Roopinder enjoys participating in many volunteer opportunities on campus and within the community; she has a true passion for helping. Roopinder is excited about the opportunity to be an academic advising intern because each student has a different story that deserves to be heard. Roopinder enjoys hiking, bicycling, and photography during her free time. She loves pizza and puppies, what more can you really want? Her overall goal in life is to be happy and to bring joy where ever she ends up.


Major: Communication Studies, Option in Public Affairs
Minor: Ethics, Justice, and Policy Studies

Thembi is a senior at Chico State.  She was born and raised in Africa and still follows the values and traditions of her culture.  She is majoring in communications and has goals of becoming a host on ENews!  Along with broadcasting, she has a niche for the law.  She was the Vice President for CSU Chico’s African Student Union, and sits on the Associated Students’ Diversity and Affairs Council.  Thembi joined the Academic Advising Program as an Intern in Spring 2015 and loves the friendly environment of the office, as well as her co-workers.  Her favorite pastimes include reading, swimming, dancing, and hanging out with friends and family.


Major: Liberal Studies and Child Development

Savannah joined Academic Advising Programs as an intern in January 2014, and is currently in her third year at CSU, Chico. She is involved in many clubs and organizations on campus including First Year Experience, For Kids at The Turner, and Up ‘til Dawn. Her future goals are to attend graduate school to complete a Master’s degree, and ultimately become a college professor. Savannah enjoys learning, traveling, yoga, hiking and animals.


Major: Psychology & Spanish

Viviana is a first generation college student who is a TRIO student as well as an EOP student. Being part of these programs has inspired Viviana to work with college students and help them succeed and achieve a higher education. She plans to graduate from Chico State with a degree in Social Sciences, Spanish, and Latin American Studies and continue her education in Higher Education. Viviana became an intern at Academic Advising Programs in January 2013. Viviana is involved in many different clubs and organizations on campus. She loves meeting new people, learning about different cultures, as well as being involved on campus and the community.
