Timeline in more detail
Application Period
Beginning in early spring, an application process begins. Each dean is encouraged to invite at least one team of faculty teaching large courses to apply. Discussions are held around the institution describing Academy e-Learning. Each team must do some research on the NCAT models and make an initial guess at how they might consider redesigning their course.
Selection process
After selection a kick-off meeting is held with all faculty selected, department chairs and deans. MOU is signed with dates that faculty commit to engaging in the AeL process and becoming an active member of the faculty learning community.
Summer Workshops
In June, three weeks are intensely focused on faculty coming together with instructional designers, librarians, faculty mentors, and the assessment coordinator. General curriculum includes introduction to successful NCAT models and case studies, blended learning concepts and options, pedagogy, technology, accessibility, assessment, and dynamic topics as suggested/needed. Presentations are made by faculty mentors already involved in course transformation. Each week faculty teams are recorded as they report out what they have learned and are considering in their redesigned course. View some sample summer workshop content.
Assessment Plan
An assessment plan is due before the fall semester starts. Faculty meet with department chairs and deans to summarize their AeL experience and how they intend to approach their redesign for the spring. Many choose to apply some new methods to their courses in the fall to try out some elements of the new redesign.
CELT Conference
Each October, CELT Conference presentations are given by participating faculty to share their progress with the campus community.
Spring Semester
In January teams meet with deans and Provost to describe their intended launch of the newly redesigned course for the spring semester. After the spring semester, the teams submit a written evaluation on their experience with supportive data.
