Campus History

CSU, Chico is comprised of 119 acres of lush landscape and beautiful architecture both old and new. Like the state-of-the-art Chico State Wildcat Recreation Center (WREC) which is one of the newest additions to the campus. Student membership to the WREC is guaranteed through enrollment. The history of Chico State dates back to its early beginning in 1887 as a Normal School to train and educate aspiring teachers. The college has come along way since it officially opened its doors in 1889 and grew into California State University, Chico in 1972, evolving into what it represents today.
