Problem #8 - Difficulties in Managing the Grading Load

To keep students actively engaged with the subject matter on a day-by-day basis, the reengineered courses require students to complete individual and/or group assignments for virtually every class meeting. This created a major increase in the grading workload, which was sharply criticized by several of the introductory accounting instructors.

Solution to Problem # 8

Although the project team generally agreed that each instructor needed to be informed of homework results in order to provide useful feedback to students, it also believed that instructors did not have to personally grade all homework in order to provide such feedback. Consequently, instructors were provided with graders (senior accounting majors and graduate students) to assist in the homework grading task. Also, the senior accounting mentors now do some of the grading.
