Campus Construction Updates — December 20, 2007
Update on construction activities at the new Sutter Hall (formally Housing/Dining facility):
Installation of the site fencing has begun, with demolition of the existing recreation building to start the week of Jan. 7. The site fencing eliminates the roadway from Tehama Hall to Legion Avenue. Persons using the accessible parking stalls will need to access those parking areas from Arcadian Avenue and enter on the south side of Holt Hall on Sowilleno Avenue. Please remember to drive 5 mph on campus. Underground utility work will begin the first part of February.
Construction of the new Sutter building will start in the beginning of May 2008.
Good news regarding the foundation construction:
The foundation system originally utilized driven piles, but now has been changed to a drilled pile system. This will eliminate the loud pounding usually associated with pile driving.
Please visit the Facilities Planning website for updated information and site logistics plans.

Accessible Technology Initiative
The purpose of ATI is to develop the work plan, guidance, and resources to assist campuses in carrying out the accessible technology provisions of EO 926.
CSU EO 926 states: “It is the policy of the CSU to make information technology resources and services accessible to all CSU students, faculty, staff and the general public regardless of disability.” This policy is premised on several federal and state laws mandating such accessibility.
The specifics of ATI is detailed in the coded memo AA-2007-04 (PDF) titled “Access to Electronic and Information Technology for Persons with Disabilities.”
CSU Chico’s Strategy
Successful implementation of the Accessible Technology Initiative (ATI) at CSU Chico will require campus-wide participation. The process has to be inclusive as it requires individual action by hundreds of faculty and staff. Oversight for ATI implementation will be the responsibility of the ATI Steering Committee whose primary task is to assure the Priority Teams have the support and resources they need to accomplish their tasks. There are three Priority Teams which represent the three ATI priorities:
- Web Accessibility
- Instructional Materials Accessibility
- Accessible Electronic and Information Technology Procurement
Though there will be challenges as we develop our strategies to implement the ATI university-wide, we certainly feel that we are ahead of the game due to our dedicated faculty and staff, Information Technology, and Disability Support Services programs.
