Early Start Program (ESP)

Am I exempt or required to enroll in Early Start?

Beginning with the fall 2018 semester, the CSU has changed how it will determine placement for general education English and math courses and who will be exempt from the Early Start remediation program for incoming freshmen students.   We will now use multiple measures of academic proficiency that may include high school English and mathematics/quantitative reasoning course grades, high school grade point averages, grades in collegiate courses, ACT scores, SAT scores, Advanced Placement scores, International Baccalaureate scores, SAT subject tests or Smarter Balanced Assessment/Early Assessment Program scores. The English Placement Test (EPT) and the Entry Level Math (ELM) test will no longer be utilized to determine placement and will not be offered.  At this point, the exact methods to be used to determine placement have not yet been released and we will post an update when they are available.
