Residency Information

Each CSU campus is responsible for determining the residency status for all new and returning students. For more detailed information regarding how the CSU determines residency for tuition purposes, please visit the California State University Residency website. This site explains the CSU residency requirements, important residence determination dates, and exceptions and exemptions, along with important residency forms and information regarding the appeal process.

The following are brief definitions of the forms you may see listed on the CSU Residency website. Please read BEFORE submitting any forms to be certain you are completing the correct form.

Exemption Form (commonly referred to as AB540 & AB2000) (PDF) - For students classified as Nonresident and meet specific high school requirements, among other criteria, and may be eligible for an exemption of Nonresident tuition fees.

Residency Questionnaire (PDF) - For applicants who are classified as Nonresident, can demonstrate physical presence and intent, and are seeking to update their residency status prior to attending CSU, Chico OR for current students who are classified as Nonresident, can demonstrate physical presence, intent, and financial independence, and are seeking to update their residency status.
