“Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.” -Dr. Seuss

Out of all the genius minds to speak words of wisdom Dr. Seuss appeals to me. These words are silly and intelligent. They highlight the ability to become unique. That is how I view my attempt at life.

Coming to Chico provided an opportunity to have amazing experiences that evolved me as an individual. In high school I was a shy kid who played basketball, did homework, and then played basketball again. This was me in a shell, and Chico was what cracked it open. Every year is different but I have enjoyed everything from day one.

As a freshman, I was surrounded with a new cast of friends and a new background by living in Esken Hall, becoming a brother of Phi Delta Theta, and joining Chico State’s Freshman Leadership Opportunity. These were all great ways to get involved on campus and see what Chico State has to offer. My junior year I chose to make a change again by studying abroad in Torino, Italy; home of the 2006 Winter Olympics, and living the most incredible year of my life. I slept in a variety of Hostel beds across Europe, learned a lick or two of Italian, and am now fully qualified to make a decent meal; hopefully for my Italian wife I hope to have. I am now in Chico looking forward to the remaining year and a half of my college life.

Like me, each student has the chance to make their own Chico experience and truly become that unique individual.
