Realizing Her Dream

Jessica Porter (BS, Biological Sciences, '05) attended CSU, Chico after being chosen as a President's Scholar. She considered many colleges, but Chico's acknowledgment of her drive to succeed made the difference.

“Had it not been for the President's scholarship, I never would have attended Chico,” says Jessica. “A huge part of being awarded the President's scholarship was realizing that someone recognized my hard work and believed in me. That was powerful!”

It was in Jessica's second year at CSU, Chico, with the help of advisors and professors, that she decided to pursue medicine. She's now a second-year medical student at UC Davis.
