Nicki Carmona, Agriculture BusinessNicki Carmona didn’t have to travel far to start her future. After graduating from Orland High School, Carmona headed down highway 32 to start her future in agriculture business. As a graduating senior at California State University, Chico, she has taken an active role in many of the clubs and organizations the College of Agriculture has to offer.

As past president and current secretary of the Society of Ag Managers and a member of the Young Cattlemen’s Association, Carmona is a very busy young woman. She admits balancing school work, extra curricular activities and planning her summer wedding can make a person very organized.

"There this a lot going on right now," Carmona said."But everything is positive which means I’m stressed out for a good reason."

Originally an agriculture education major, Carmona took accounting class and decided ag business was what she wanted to pursue.

Growing up around the business and raising market animals in her youth, Carmona feels it’s important to bring what she’s learned at Chico State back to the industry.

"Agriculture is a very important industry throughout the world," Carmona said. "Having a combination of background and education is necessary to make sure this industry continues to flourish."

Superior Ag Scholarship 2002, Dean’s list 2001 and the Lieutenant Robert Merton Rawlins Merit Award in 2002 are a few of Carmona’s accomplishments.Outside of school, she has interned with American Ag Credit’s finance department."The best part of the internship experience was helping people," Carmona said."I got to take what I have learned in school and put it to use in the real world."

Along with Chico State professors who have helped her along the way, Carmona would like to acknowledge her high school ag professors Mr. Vierra and Mrs. Cannon from Orland High School. After graduation in May, Carmona will be tying the knot with her fiancé, who she met at Chico State. She plans on staying in the north state and putting her education to work.
