Hans Specht, Agriculture Business

Hans Specht, Agriculture BusinessCombine enthusiasm, energy, and a dynamic personality and you will get the star student in Agriculture Business: Hans Specht. As a fifth-year student who will graduate in May, Specht has made the most out of his time at California State University, Chico.

Claiming his experience as "quintessential" and "one straight out the movies," Specht knows that coming to the College of Ag at Chico State was a great decision. "When I leave here, I will not only walk out with a degree-I will walk out with the skills that will bring me success in the agriculture industry," says Specht.

Specht has certainly developed skills far beyond what he learned in the classroom by taking advantage of extra-curricular activities. He has participated in the Young Farmers and Ranchers Discussion Meet, is currently assisting with the FFA Field Day, and will be taking part in a marketing competition in Pasadena. With his education as a priority, though, Specht has excelled in his studies and is an asset to the classroom.

"Hans just has a personality that makes people gravitate towards him," states Patrick Berends, agriculture business professor. "His character will obviously help him reach success in his career."

Specht enjoys classes that he is continually challenged in and credits Todd Lone’s classes as his favorite because of the high expectation he has for students. "I learn the most from his classes because he pushes us to excel," says Specht. "He sets a high standard for us and keeps his students coming to class."

When Specht is not consumed by school and educational activities, he enjoys playing his guitar and watching his beloved A’s play baseball.

Upon graduation in May, Specht aims to start a career in sales and marketing of fresh produce and make his family in Morgan Hill proud.

Still, Specht will miss Chico and his time here. "Chico’s a great town and a great college," says Specht. "I love this town."
