Patrick grew up in Houston, TX, with the exception of a three-year stint in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. An interest in animal agriculture led him to Texas A&M University (Whoop!!) where he received his BS degree in animal science with a focus on industry and production (May, 1994). Graduate study at Colorado State University resulted in both MS and PhD degrees in animal science with a focus on animal breeding and genetics.
While at Colorado State University, Patrick managed the performance programs for a 450-head cow herd and 80+ bull test facility at the John E. Rouse Colorado State University Beef Improvement Center, Saratoga, WY. Research included the evaluation and development of EPDs for reproduction, genetic parameter estimation for gestation length, and evaluation of the impacts of sexed semen utilization on commercial beef production.
Upon completion of his degree program, Patrick took the position of director of Education and Research at the American Gelbvieh Association. While with AGA, Patrick managed research projects, developed a Grid Merit EPD, and served as the staff advisor to junior programs.
Patrick is currently involved in research projects serving the beef and lamb industries. Along with his teaching and research responsibilities, he helps advise students and several student clubs.
