Wes grew up in Orland, California, on his family’s 500-cow dairy that is still in operation today. Wes attended CSU, Chico, where he was a member of the 1999 Livestock Judging Team. After receiving his BS in agriculture with an option in animal science in May 2000, he pursued a master’s in animal science, specifically focused on ruminant nutrition, at Washington State University. After earning his MS in May 2002, Wes accepted a job with Purina Mills as a dairy nutritionist in upstate New York for three years. It was a great opportunity to experience the dairy industry in the Northeast, and Wes still maintains contacts there today. In 2005, Wes returned to California to continue his work as an independent dairy nutrition and management consultant. At the same time, Wes accepted a lecturer position in the College of Agriculture. Wes enjoys bringing his industry experience to the classroom to share with his students. He also serves as an internship coordinator and helps advise students.
Wes is a member of the California and American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists (ARPAS) as well as the American Dairy Science Association (ADSA).
Wes and his wife Alyssa have a son, Brandt, and live in Orland. They also own a small herd of beef cows and raise steers for 4-H and FFA projects.
