Animal Science Major Wins California Beef Ambassador Contest

Freshman Animal Science major Katie Stroud won the senior division of the California Beef Ambassador Contest held at the CSU, Chico University Farm on April 28, 2012.  The contest, which is sponsored by the California CattleWomen’s Association and the California Beef Council to develop communication and advocacy skills in youth ages 12-20, consisted of a written response, a mock consumer demonstration in front of an audience, and a mock media interview.

The contest consisted of 21 contestants, 12 competing in the senior division and nine competing in the junior division. Each contestant was selected by their county’s CattleWomen unit.

Stroud, sponsored by Intermountain CattleWomen, will go on to represent California at the National Beef Ambassador Contest held in Sacramento in September.

“Katie cares deeply about the beef industry and is an excellent communicator,” Beef Ambassador Chair Sarah DeForest said. “She will represent California well at the National Beef Ambassador Contest.”
