41st Annual FFA Field Day at CSU, Chico Farm

Several high school FFA teams garnered honors at the 41st Annual Statewide Future Farmers of America (FFA) Field Day, hosted by the California State University, Chico College of Agriculture and the Butte College Agriculture Department. The competition was held at Chico State's Paul L. Byrne Memorial Agricultural Teaching and Research Center on March 14, 2009.

The educational event was an opportunity for approximately 1,200 FFA members from California, Oregon, Washington and Nevada to compete in 21 agricultural contests, ranging from livestock judging to farm record keeping to vegetable crop judging. Students were judged on their performance and skills in different contest areas.

FFA is a national youth organization, founded in 1928, of over 500,000 student members that are being prepared for leadership and careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture. With 7,439 local chapters in America, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, FFA develops students' potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success.
