Judging Team Continues to Win High Honors

The California State University, Chico Livestock Judging Team received high honors at the Nebraska Cattlemen’s Classic and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

The team received reserve grand champion at the Nebraska Cattlemen’s Classic in Kearney, Neb., held Feb. 20-26, and placed seventh overall at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in Houston, Texas, held March 11-16.

“We put a lot of time and practice into livestock judging and it’s paying off,” said John Gladman, a member of the judging team. “We have all been first and last amongst ourselves, which shows we have a really strong team as a whole.”

At the Nebraska Cattlemen’s Classic, Jordan Baumgartner placed second-high individual, Haydn Clement placed seventh-high individual and Eli Worden placed ninth-high individual.

The judging team placed seventh out of 27 teams at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Gladman placed 10th-high individual and fourth-high placing. Amanda Wolf placed second-high individual in the sheep-judging contest.

“It was an interesting and unique experience to go to Texas and judge animals like Brahman cattle and Dorper sheep which we rarely see in California,” said Gladman. “Placing 10th-high individual against competitors who have more experience with those types of animals was really rewarding.”
