YCA Members Represent CSU, Chico at NCBA Convention

Five members of the California State University, Chico College of Agriculture Young Cattlemen’s Association (YCA) attended the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) national convention in Denver from Feb. 2-5, 2011.

The NCBA convention is an annual gathering where members of the beef industry discuss rising and current issues in the industry and set policy that will guide the grassroots trade organization. The convention features a 300-booth trade show.

YCA is an auxiliary of the California Cattlemen’s Association (CCA). It was designed to engage youth in the beef industry and groom them to become future leaders.

The CSU, Chico YCA members that attended the convention were Kyle Daley, Jeremy Ballard, Thomas White, Kelsey Markus and Kirby Swickard. The students visited with industry leaders from all over the U.S. They attended the Cattlemen’s College, which included several different workshops for a broad range of interests.

The CSU, Chico students were also the only YCA representatives at the western region meeting that included producers from California, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico and Hawaii.

“We were honored to be recognized at the regional meeting and to represent CSU, Chico,” Daley said. “We were even more honored when we were thanked as the future of the business for participating and being engaged.”
