College of Agriculture Welcomes Record Number of New Students

The California State University, Chico College of Agriculture held the first New Student Welcome Back Barbeque on Sept. 5, 2013, at the University Farm Arboretum. Due to the increase in number in the College of Agriculture, this year’s barbeque was held specifically to welcome a record of 242 new agriculture students to the CSU, Chico campus, making a grand total of 716 students in the College of Agriculture.

The barbeque serves as a fun and casual opportunity for new students to mingle and meet fellow active agriculture majors and faculty. The College of Agriculture’s eight clubs and organizations utilize the event as a chance to recruit new members by setting up informational booths and advertising their goals for the coming year.

Riley Quinn, a new freshman in the College of Agriculture, said she was glad she attended the event. “The new student barbecue was great! It definitely benefited me and other new students by allowing us to meet club leaders, fellow classmates, and professors. We were also opened up to the various other opportunities provided specifically for students in the College of Agriculture.”
