Drs. Dick and Marian Baldy Inducted into Hall of Honor

Drs. Dick and Marian Baldy were honored as the newest members of the California State University, Chico College of Agriculture Hall of Honor on Oct. 6, 2012. The 22nd annual Hall of Honor ceremony was held during a reception at the University Farm Arboretum.

Marian Baldy started a wine appreciation course, through which she became internationally recognized as a wine expert, developing a textbook and many papers on the subject. She also developed a new class in agricultural genetics. Marian Baldy became the first female tenure-track professor in the College of Agriculture and gave an inspirational speech about her accomplishment upon being recognized as this years’ Hall of Honor member.

“I know the Baldys were very pleased with the event, and I was touched by the number of alumni who came from far and wide to honor them,” College of Agriculture Director of Advancement Sarah DeForest said.

The Hall of Honor Reception featured live music, beer, wine, cheese and sausage tasting and a silent auction that will benefit student organizations in the College of Agriculture.

The Hall of Honor was held in conjunction with Sierra Oro Farm Trail Passport Weekend. On Oct. 6-7, the University Farm was featured as a stop on the farm trail and was open to passport holders for tours and tasting of the farm’s products. Several of the farm’s units had samples available, including pulled pork sandwiches at the Swine Unit, tri-tip at the Beef Unit, sausage at the Meats Lab and goat salami at the Sheep and Goat Unit. The University Farm had approximately 600 visitors between the two days.
