College of Agriculture Hosted Annual Alumni Reunion
College of Agriculture Hosted Annual Alumni Reunion
The California State University, Chico College of Agriculture hosted the 9th Annual Chico State Ag Alumni reunion at the Red Bluff Bull and Gelding Sale on Friday, Jan. 29, 2010.
The reunion included a live and silent auction to raise money for Chico State Ag Alumni scholarships and other academic programs in the College of Agriculture. And, as always, a no-host bar and refreshments were provided.
This year the alumni committee chose a very special couple, Wes "Doc" and Jane Patton, to be recognized for all of their contributions throughout the years. Dr. Patton is a graduate of the college, receiving his bachelor's degree in agriculture in 1965, and returning in 1969 with a PhD from Oregon State University to teach in the College of Agriculture for 35 years. Even after retirement, the Pattons continue to support the program through an endowment that supports students travelling to visit graduate school or present research at a scientific meeting. They also continue to host classes and student organizations for field trips to their ranch in Orland.
Heidi Goss, a pre-vet animal science sophomore and recipient of the Chico State Ag Alumni scholarship, thanked the group for their donations and continuous support of the college. "It's allowed me to relax a little in terms of financial responsibility and lower my dependency on my parents, allowing me to really focus on school," said Goss.
Each year the alumni socials are a wonderful opportunity to bring graduates together to mingle, reminisce and network with fellow industry leaders while raising money to support scholarships and academic programs in the College of Agriculture.
