College of Ag Hosts 12th Annual Alumni Social

On Friday, Jan. 25, the CSU, Chico College of Agriculture hosted its 12th annual Ag Social at the Red Bluff Bull and Gelding Sale in Red Bluff, Calif. The event served its purpose of keeping alumni connected with the college and saw a record attendance of more than 150 people. The gathering raised more than $5,000 for Chico State Ag Alumni scholarships in the College of Agriculture.

In addition to a live and silent auction, raffle, snacks and beverages, the program featured a presentation to honor Leslie Santos, recently retired from the University Farm. “Leslie has served the College of Agriculture and the University Farm for more than 20 years,” Dean Jennifer Ryder Fox said. “She is one of the sweetest, friendliest people you will meet, but she also accounted for every penny that was spent at the farm and would not let you get away without paying what you owed.” Santos received a plaque and a ceramic pie plate engraved with the Chico State brand.

Senior animal science major Corey Carpenter also spoke at the event, thanking the alumni and friends for their generous donations. “On behalf of the students who have had the distinct privilege of benefiting from the CSU, Chico Ag Alumni scholarship I would like to extend the most sincere thank you to those supporters who have helped make this scholarship available to young agriculturalists,” Carpenter said. “This scholarship enables me to fulfill my ultimate goal of gaining theoretical knowledge and practical experience, and coupling it with the ability to make decisions that will ultimately allow me to succeed in my career path.”
