College of Agriculture Holds Scholarship Ceremony

On Thursday, April 4, the California State University, Chico College of Agriculture held a scholarship ceremony to recognize the generosity of scholarship donors and to congratulate the student recipients.

“Coming from a family that’s largely involved in the dairy business, scholarships are essential to my educational success,” said freshman Agriculture Education major Lia Van Egmond. “Without this financial support from our generous donors, I would not have been able to have the opportunity to come to Chico State and have the incredible experience that Chico has provided me with. Words cannot describe how thankful I am for the opportunities that I have been able to take advantage of because of the scholarships I received. I only hope one day I can be able to impact someone else’s life in the ways these scholarship donors have done for me.”

The program included a guest speaker, the College of Agriculture’s 2013 Distinguished Alumnus Ray Griffin. Griffin is a founding partner and general manager of FoodSource in Monterey, Calif. Griffin encouraged students to work hard and look for ways to make a difference within their careers and their communities.

Approximately 50 scholarship recipients were on hand to accept their scholarship certificates from their scholarship donors and Dean Jennifer Ryder Fox. For more information, contact Sarah DeForest at sdeforest@csuchico.edu or 530-898-3737.
