Agriculture Dean Names Star Students and Club of the Year

Dean Jennifer Ryder Fox announced the 2012 Star Students and Club of the Year for the College of Agriculture at a lunch for students on May 2, 2012.

“I appreciated Sigma Alpha’s efforts in ag literacy through reaching out to the public to help them become aware of the importance of ag,” Dean Fox said. “Though it was a hard decision to make, I saw improvement in Sigma Alpha over previous years, and that’s what really set them apart.”

Each year, faculty in each of the four disciplines within the College of Agriculture select one student to recognize as a Star Student. These particular students have gone above and beyond academically and outside their academic work.

The 2012 Star Students are Elizabeth Hurd (Agriculture Business), Kimberly Macintosh (Agriculture Science and Education), Sarah Albers (Animal Science), and Joanna Bloese (Crops, Horticulture, and Land Resource Management). Each of the star students is profiled on the College of Agriculture website at www.csuchico.edu/ag/about/star-students.

“The Star Students are almost always those students whom I already know, which means they’re involved in many things, at the farm, in the office, and generally available to pitch in when needed.  And they’re usually pretty good students too, so they are well rounded individuals, which is an important characteristic that employers look for,” Dean Fox said.
