CSU, Chico Hosts Swine Education Day
The California State University, Chico Swine Unit Management Team hosted Swine Education Day on Jan. 29 at the University Farm.
More than 800 people attend the event, which is geared toward 4-H and FFA members to help them prepare to raise and care for project pigs.Swine Education Day featured workshops on nutrition, carcass evaluation, selection, fitting, showmanship and health. The workshops are focused to help youth who want to raise swine for fair projects, but were also open to the public.
Swine day featured Dave Lopes, president of the California Pork Producers Association, as this year’s keynote speaker. Lopes discussed the advocacy for the swine industry and how youth exhibitors play a role in swine production. He also hosted a break-out session during the day to answer questions from the audience.
