Commencement Information

Welcome to the Chico State Commencement Ceremonies Web site.

Dear Graduating Senior,

On behalf of the faculty, staff and administration of CSU, Chico, I would like to invite you to join in the celebration of Commencement to be held at University Stadium on Saturday and Sunday, May 24 and 25, 2008. These ceremonies start promptly at 9:00 a.m.

These two Commencement Ceremonies are designed especially for you and your family members to join in the celebration of this momentous event in your lives. I am sure you are all very proud of your accomplishments, and we at the university are proud of you as well.

As a graduating senior you will have to do two things:

•  Apply for graduation through Academic Evaluations

•  Register to participate in Commencement Ceremonies.

Sound confusing? I am sure you are asking yourself "why do I have to apply for graduation and register for Commencement Ceremonies? Aren't they the same thing?"

Great question! What is the difference between Commencement and Graduation? Commencement refers to the ceremony, officiated by Chico State President Paul J. Zingg, that is an opportunity for graduating seniors to share the excitement and importance of their academic accomplishments with peers, family, and friends. Participation in the Commencement Ceremonies is not a guarantee that you have officially graduated from Chico State. You will officially graduate from Chico State only when you have met all degree requirements and have followed the appropriate steps needed for graduation.

For information on applying for graduation, you will need to pick up a graduation application packet from the Student Records and Registration lobby, Meriam Library 180. Additional information can be found at http://em.csuchico.edu/aap/Office/Eval.asp, or you may call the Office of Academic Evaluations at 530-898-5957.

To participate in Commencement Ceremonies, you must register to walk at https://em.csuchico.edu/aap/commencement

Please note, no Commencement Ceremony materials will be mailed to students. Information for graduating seniors, their families, and guests, as well as "Life after Graduation" is included in this Web site.
