Town Hall Meeting
November 10, 2011

Dear Chico State Alumni,

California State University, Chico is holding its Town Hall Meeting Program next Thursday. About 600 students in Political Science 155, American Government, have been researching policy issues and considering ways to advocate for change.

On November 10 at 6:00 pm in the BMU Auditorium, on the Chico State campus, students will gather to discuss their ideas. We are looking for policy consultants to meet with students and help them consider specific ways to advocate for change. Consultants need to be able to help students think about what is possible, policy-wise, and identify political actors and places where they might be able to interact with policy. Current/past consultants have included City Council members, political activists, nonprofit advocates, educators, and graduate students. If you are interested in participating, please contact Ellie Clifford Ertle, eertle@csuchico.edu.

All community members are also welcome to attend as guests.

Fall Town Hall Policy Issues:

  • California prison overcrowding
  • Insuring student and community safety
  • Reducing unemployment
  • How to prevent human trafficking in the U.S.
  • How to provide services for veterans
  • Addressing conflicting state and federal marijuana policy
  • Reducing carbon emissions
  • Wall Street regulation
  • Curriculum and teaching in K-12 education
  • How to fund California higher education
  • Tangible solutions for the California budget crisis
  • The U.S. budget, debt, taxes and spending
  • US defense spending
  • How to provide access to health care for more Americans
