Family Weekend 2009

Alumni Association President Tim ColbieIt is October; that means cooler weather, leaves turning various colors of gold and burgundy, busy weekends in Chico, midterms and papers for students, and Family Weekend on the Chico State campus. October 10 will see more than 800 folks gathering for lunch on the Kendall lawn. While most of these people will be students and their families, there will be a smattering of alumni among them.

There is a full calendar of scheduled events for October 8 through October 11. Events kick off with the Annual Chico Chapter Fall Mixer on Thursday, October 8 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Warrens Reception Center. Cost is $5.00 per person, and you can pay at the door. Dr. Rachel Teasdale, interim executive director of the Gateway Science Museum, will be on hand to talk about the new museum and its much anticipated opening.

In addition to the barbecue taking place on the Kendall Lawn Saturday afternoon, the Sierra Oro Farm Trail will be kicking off its Passport Weekend from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Passports can be purchased at the Chico Chamber of Commerce, 300 Salem Street, for $20.00 each. More information is available at http://sierraoro.org/index.php. This year marks the first for the University Farm on the trail—it's sure to be a hit with all visitors.

If you have not had a chance to tour the new, state-of-the-art Wildcat Recreation Center, then be sure to stop by at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Women's Volleyball games are scheduled for Friday at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday at 7:00 p.m. in Acker Gym. There are also plenty of Chico Performances and Department of Theatre Arts events scheduled for the weekend. There is pretty much something to do for every member of the family. Check out the entire calendar at http://www.csuchico.edu/alumni/parents/family_weekend_calendar.php.

Next year, the Alumni Association will bring you "The Chico Experience Week," with a full week of events designed to bring you back to campus and engage you with the University and students. We'll keep you posted on when you will be able to view a full calendar of events, but for now, save the dates—October 8-16.

We hope to see you on campus this weekend—and look forward to seeing you next October for sure!
