California State University,
Chico Celebrates 125th Anniversary

In 2012, California State University, Chico is celebrating its 125th anniversary as the second oldest CSU campus in the state. A school that began as the Northern Branch of the State Normal School with 90 students and five faculty members is now one of the West’s top-ranked public comprehensive universities, with more than 15,000 students and 100 majors and options.

“As one of California’s first public universities, Chico State has had the privilege to serve tens of thousands of students in the North State, across California and throughout the world,” said President Paul Zingg. “Our faculty, staff, students, alumni and many friends and supporters have much of which to be proud, as we take the opportunity this anniversary year to highlight our legacy and achievements and look ahead to an exciting and ambitious future.”

To commemorate its 125 years of service to the North State and California, Chico State is planning some important initiatives and special events that emphasize the University’s long-standing commitments to student success and service to the community.

1098-T - Tuition Statement is now available on the Student Center for Calendar year 2011

If tuition and registration fees are paid out of pocket, you may find a 1098-T tax form available on the Student Center! Once in your Student Center, scroll down to the “Finance” section and click on “1098T Detail Inquiry."

The 1098-T is produced for eligible students annually, based on calendar year registration data (Spring 2011 – Fall 2011). The University reports the amounts billed for those terms in box 2 of the 1098-T. Box 1 may show a $0 dollar amount. This does not mean payments were not received; instead, it is a place holder on the form. As the taxpayer, you are required to retain documents to substantiate amounts paid.

If you do not find a 1098-T on your student center, we may not be required to produce one based on various reasons, such as:

  • You received more scholarships and/or grants than the amount of qualified tuition and fees billed.
  • You are classified as a Non-Resident Alien.
  • You did not receive academic credit because of withdrawal or failure to successfully complete classes.

For more information visit the website for Student Financial Services, and check out our 1098-T FAQ’s: www.csuchico.edu/sfin.

California State University, Chico cannot answer tax questions. For questions regarding other qualified educational expenses, or eligibility to take tax credits, please consult with a tax professional, or review publication 970 on the IRS website: www.irs.gov.
