Chico Experience Week - October 10-19, 2014
Facebook Twitter Addthis

The Chico Experience Week 2014 The fifth annual Chico Experience Week is just around the corner! This event brings alumni, students, parents, and friends together for 10 days of fun, education, and reconnection with friends, the campus, and the community. The Chico Experience Week is sponsored by the Alumni Association and ties together the campus and local organizations and businesses in order to create aChico Experience Week Photo menu of activities for a wide array of audiences.

As a first for this event, The Chico Experience will not only connect alumni here in Chico, but across Northern California.  The Chico, Sacramento, and Bay Area Chapters of the Alumni Association will each be holding a mixer on the evening of Thursday, October 16. The goal is that alumni in each area will join together to celebrate and reminisce the "Chico Experience" right in their home town.  More information about these events and many more can be found at www.thechicoexperienceweek.com

'C' Photo with the Class of 2018

During Wildcat Welcome, all incoming and transfer students are invited to participate in a class photo. This year on August 22, a total of 2,227 incoming students and 1 dog funneled through to fill one very large 'C' in the field behind the stadium.  The Alumni Association handed out "Chico State Alum" pennants to each student, staff, and faculty member who participated in the photo. We look forward to seeing the Class of 2018 as alumni in the years to come!

Scholarship To Honor Former Baseball Player
Facebook Twitter Addthis
Chris FrancoA scholarship in honor of a former Wildcat baseball player, his teammates, and all Wildcat baseball players is being established to support the Chico State Baseball program.

The Once a 'Cat, Always a 'Cat Baseball Scholarship is dedicated to Chrisian "Chris" Franco, a former Wildcat baseball player on the 1999 NCAA Championship team, as well as his teammates who rallied together to support his family, friends, and each other when Chris passed away earlier this year. The scholarship will embody the dedication that Chris and his teammates displayed during the baseball season and in the offseason.

The recipient of the scholarship will be a returning player who has proven to be an exemplary representative of the Chico State Baseball program. The recipient will be a solid student - with a GPA of 2.5 or higher - as well as a tremendous teammate who strives not only to make himself, but also those around him, better both on and off the baseball diamond.

The goal is to raise at least $10,000 for the scholarship by December 31, 2014. To date, $3,640 has been secured. The scholarship will be awarded starting next year, with the award amount based on the success of fundraising. To make a gift

 Sacramento Rivertrain Event 2014
The Sacramento Chapter hosted their second annual RiverTrain event on Sunday, August 17. Twenty-five alumni joined us for a relaxing ride along the Sacramento River. The train featured live music and tastings from four Northern California breweries: Sierra Nevada, Dustbowl Brewing, Sudwerk, and Ace Hard Cider. The rep from Sierra Nevada was especially excited to have Chico State alumni on board.  She challenged Wildcats to play her beer trivia game and then awarded winners with a complimentary Sierra Nevada pint glass! Needless to say, it was a good time!

Kasey Barnett: Chico State's Outstanding All American
Facebook Twitter Addthis

Over the past four years, Chico State has had the honor of calling Kasey Barnett one if its very own Wildcats. Her list of accomplishments as a track and field athlete are as lengthy as the amount of academic awards she has received. To list just a few: CCAA Field Athlete of the Year 2013 & 2014, Chico State record holder in the pole vault and as part of the fastest 4x100 meter relay team in school history, CCAA Female Scholar Athlete of the Year (for the 2013-2014 season), and School of Communication and Education Outstanding Student Leader Award recipient.

This fall Barnett will begin working for Pebble Beach Company as the Food and Beverage Team Leader at The Inn at Spanish Bay, in their management training program. During this year to year and a half program, she plans to train for a half marathon in May. Barnett said, "We will see how that goes, distance is not my thing!" From what we've see no distance is too far for this Wildcat!
