Super Sleuthing Skills Bring Chico State Alum and Lost Ring Together

Janet McCue recenFound Chico State Ringtly joined the staff of the Chico State Office of Alumni and Parent Relations. Janet didn't just take over the clerical duties of the office, she also inherited a 12 year old mystery. A Chico State class of 1974 ring had been found in Pacerville in 2002, but we did not know who lost the ring. All Janet had to go on was the class year of 1974, BS Engineering (also printed on the ring), and the initials CCF engraved inside the ring.

Note Found with Ring

Janet thought she would start her search with the 1974 yearbook, but alas, Chico State did not print a yearbook in 1974. Not to be deterred, Janet then turned her search to the 1974 Commencement program. Believing that she was looking for an engineering graduate with the initials CCF, Janet turned to the engineering section of the program and found the name Charles Clinton Fisher.

With a little more super sleuthing (on the part of prospect researcher Christina Smith), a phone number was tracked down for Mr. Fisher. He was pretty excited when Janet let him know his class ring had been located. After 12 years, the ring and its owner have been reunited due to Janet's perseverance.

Chico State Football Reunion 2014

Former Chico State Football Players

Former Chico State football players gathered July 10-12 for an all-player and coaches reunion. Events included dinners at the Graduate and Madison Bear Garden, the Bob Vickney Memorial Golf Tournament at Bidwell Golf Course, an informal barbecue hosted by a local alum, and a banquet at Quackers. Someone even remembered to bring the Victory Ax! Apparently, the ax went to the winner of the Chico State vs. Humboldt State game each year. The last two years Chico State played football, Chico beat Humboldt. The ax has found its permanent home in Chico!

Annual Alumni Day at AT&T Park

The Willis Brothers at the July 27, 2014 Giants GameJuly 27 was a beautiful day in San Francisco for the annual Alumni Day at AT&T Park. There were 100 Chico State alumni who gathered on Anchor Plaza for a pre-game celebration that included hamburgers and beer. The Giants weren't able to pull out a win against the LA Dodgers (not everyone who attended was unhappy about that), but everyone still had a great time enjoying one of summer's favorite pasttimes.

We will do this event again in 2015. We highly recommend you buy your tickets early, though, because we always sell out, and you really don't want to miss this annual event!

Chico State Alumni in the 2014 Lacrosse World Championships

The FIL Lacrosse World Championships were played July 10-19 in Commerce City, Colorado. There were 38 countries competing in the tournament; nine of those nations were competing for the first time. Much like FIFA World Cup Soccer, FIL World Championships are played once every four years. This year, though, four Chico State alumni were participating in the tournament!

Twin brothers Mike and Joe Vila played for Mexico, Paul Schneider played for Switzerland, and Josh Roden played for England.

The Vila brothers are both 1985 Construction Management graduates. In the 14-10 Mexico over Spain victory, Mike Vila had four goals and two assists, while Joe Vila had three goals and two assists. The match was Mexico's first-ever win in an FIL World Championship.
