$2 Million Gift for Ag Students Largest in University History

Dan Giustina Chico State is excited to share news of the largest scholarship gift in the history of the University. The Bell Family Presidential Scholarship Endowment will benefit College of Agriculture students, starting with two recipients next fall and four new recipients in subsequent years. Students will receive $5,000 per year for four years, up to 16 recipients at any given time.

Dan Giustina presented a $2 million check to President Zingg at a
news conference on August 22. Giustina is not a Chico State alum, but a life-long friend of Tom Bell, who managed the famed Bell Ranch in Butte County. The scholarship program was designed to honor the Bell family and help recruit the best and brightest Ag students to campus. Read more...

Wildcat Cruiser Presented at Wildcat Welcome

Chico State alum and Alumni Association past president, Don Carlsen, '69, donated a Chico State Wildcat Cruiser that was presented to an incoming student at this year's Wildcat Welcome. Freshman Lindsey Lomanto held the winning number and became the owner of bike number 39, which is Carlsen's NFL referee number. Carlsen recently retired after 24 years as a referee with the NFL.

"Don's generosity is very much appreciated," said alumni director Susan Anderson. "Over the years he has been so giving of his time and support to Chico State alumni and students. His offer to purchase a Wildcat Cruiser to give away to a student was a delightful surprise." More than 1,000 students attended the Friday Night Concert in the Downtown Plaza, where the cruiser was given away. The Alumni Association board of directors is also planning on giving away a Wildcat Cruiser during next Spring's Senior Send-off activities.
