LSAMP stands for the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation. It is a support program to increase the number of minority students who receive bachelor's degrees in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics and to promote entrance into graduate school. Our underrepresented minorities include Black, Hispanic, American Indian, and Pacific Islanders.
We emphasize strengthening problem solving and mathematical skills applicable to all academic pursuits. Chico is a small part of the California State University—Louis Stokes AMP (CSU-LSAMP). This program is funded by the National Science Foundation, the California State University, and CSU Chico to create a pathway to success for its participants.
The project began in the summer of 1994 and has been experiencing successful progress. Because of this progress, the original 5-year grant has received two 5-year extensions.
The goal of CSU Chico LSAMP is academic excellence for all of our students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
