Chico State Wildcats Relay For Life Team Wins Award and Fights Cancer

Even in 110 degree heat, the Wildcat Relay For Life team showed up and won 2nd place this weekend in single team fundraising by raising $12,120.63 and 1st place In Per Capita fundraising with $1,212 per person. Peggy Armocido, Team Captain won 1st place in Individual fundraising out of 822 participants by raising $6,007.13. The team also won Best Costume as fairies with the theme “Wishing for a Cure”. The team did a great job representing Chico State and raising money for the American Cancer Society in their fight against cancer.

They work hard all year round on their fundraising, planning their theme and preparing for the big culminating event, the 24 hour Relay For Life. At the event we Celebrate those who have Survived cancer, Remember those we have lost to cancer and Fight Back against this horrible disease. Every year we purchase 100 luminaria bags which we light in a ceremony after dark to honor each member of our Chico State Community who has survived or we have lost to cancer.

Please congratulate any team members you may know or see around campus for the wonderful work they do for the cause and representing Chico State. Team members are: Peggy Armocido, Lori Adrian, Wendi Beane, Vicky Breeden, Polly Crabtree, Kathleen Hillman, Michelle Holmes, Barbara LaRue, Melanie O’Connor, and Holly Soldavini.

A big thank you to all of you who support the team through attending fundraisers, helping us walk the hours, and of course all of your generous donations.
