SUBJECT: City of Chico First Street / Second Street Couplet Project
The City of Chico’s First Street / Second Street Couplet project continues this summer and we want to let the campus community know the details where and when it borders the campus.
Current and Upcoming Work Efforts
Work commenced last week at the southeast corner of 2nd and Salem Streets. Specifically, concrete curb and gutter for a new bulbed corner and outdoor dining patio area for Mom’s Restaurant was poured last week, with final flatwork installation and traffic signal modifications scheduled for completion within the next two weeks. During the bulbing / outdoor patio area construction, the 2nd Street westbound traffic lanes have been reduced from two to one. Please use caution and comply with all traffic controls through the area.
Road resurfacing work, including micro-surfacing, repaving, and overlay, is scheduled to begin the week of July 22-26. Periodic and temporary road closures can be expected along portions of 1st, 2nd, Wall, Broadway, and Main Streets to complete the work. To minimize traffic impacts to the maximum extent feasible, repaving work will be conducted at night (between 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.). More detailed scheduling and traffic control information will be provided in the next Downtown Couplet Project Update.
