Veterans / Military Personnel Get in Free to Nov. 9th Symphonic Winds' "Band Classics" Concert
Veterans Day will be celebrated early this year with a concert paying homage to veterans and military personnel.
Presented Saturday, November 9th at 7:30 p.m. in Harlen Adams Theatre, the Symphonic Winds’ fall concert, “Band Classics,” is sure to resonate deeply with every member of the audience.
Conducted by Vietnam veteran and Department of Music faculty member Dr. Royce Tevis, “Band Classics” is a two-part concert. The first part features classic band pieces including the iconic “Star Spangled Banner,” the dramatic “Symphonic Fanfare” and “English Folk Song Suite,” a piece composed by Ralph Vaughan Williams that will give the audience a glimpse into the history of military music.
The second part of the concert is dedicated to our veterans and current military personnel. Featured works include “Americans We,” a unifying piece by Henry Fillmore; “Armed Forces Salute,” a service medley containing recognizable American classics that pays tribute to all five branches of the military; and “Star and Stripes Forever.”
The concert is free to any person who attends in military uniform or presents their military identification card.
Advance tickets, at $15 general, $13 senior citizens, and $6 students/children, are available at the University Box Office, 898-6333.
