Eat Real: Celebrate Food Day on October 24!
Get ready to Eat Real on Thursday, October 24, Food Day 2013.
Food Day celebrates healthy, affordable, and sustainably produced food, a grassroots national campaign for better food policies.
Food Day aims to help people “eat real,” which means cutting back on sugar drinks, overly salted packaged foods, and fatty, factory-farmed meats in favor of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and sustainably raised protein. Food Day supports shorter lines at fast-food drive-throughs—and bigger crowds at farmers markets.
In Chico Food Day is being hosted by CSU, Chico’s Center for Nutrition & Activity Promotion (CNAP), and events will be held on campus from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Selvester’s Café.
Food Day highlights include an informational scavenger hunt—with raffle prizes—plus the Edible Pedal bike kitchen, healthy food tastings, and the U.S. hunger documentary A Place at the Table. Sheila St. Cin and Gina Sims will screen their award-winning mini-documentary Apples Farm to Fork, about local apple grower Bryan Howard and his family’s 100-acre north Chico ranch. And Emily Koller, the first FoodCorps member to serve in far Northern California, will share her experiences.
