O.V.P. Market! New location inside the BMU!
The Organic Vegetable Project is a 3-acre plot located on the University Farm. It seeks to grow, evaluate, and identify new crop varieties while bringing together students, faculty members, local farmers, and the community. Stop by and support locally grown, organic Chico State produce! We will be out on the podium next to the BMU, Wednesday from 11-2pm. Check out our Facebook page for more information, recipes, pictures, updates, and vegetable fun facts!
[We found a new home in the BMU! Come on by, if only to say hi!]
This week's offerings:
- Winter squash: Butternut, Hubbard, and Kabocha. All varieties are sweet - try any of them peeled and roasted with fresh rosemary. $1/lb.
- Tatsoi: Treat like spinach: steam and add to a stir-fry or chop raw leaves and toss into a salad. This green is particularly good when paired with scallions in a simple sesame vinaigrette. $2 each.
- Pomegranates: Harvest the seeds and process in a blender until smooth, then strain and you have fresh pomegranate juice! $2/lb.
- Sweet and hot peppers: Bell Peppers, Wenks Yellow Hots, Hinkelhatz, Cyklon Peppers, and Habanero. These peppers are best for grilling, roasting, or adding heat to any dish! $2.50/lb.
