Earn Two Teaching Credentials in One Year!
If you are considering applying to a credential program and have an interest in teaching special education, be sure to consider the School of Education's Concurrent Programs. Two pathway options are available, each offering you the opportunity to earn two credentials in one year.
The first allows you to earn an Education Specialist Mild/Moderate credential (for teaching special education in grades K-12) and a Single Subject credential (for teaching a specific subject area of your choice, usually in middle school or high school) at the same time. Additional information on this program is available at http://www.csuchico.edu/soe/credential/special/ss-concurrent/index.shtml.
The second option would allow you to earn an Education Specialist Mild/Moderate credential and a Multiple Subject credential (for teaching in a self-contained classroom, usually in grades K-6) at the same time. Find additional information at http://www.csuchico.edu/soe/credential/special/ms-concurrent/index.shtml.
Both of these programs allow you to earn two credentials in one year, provided that all prerequisites are completed beforehand. These programs satisfy approximately half the units required for the M.A. in Education. The School of Education also offers programs for adding additional credentials after completion of an initial credential program.
