Dr. Thomas Johnson is a professor of anthropology at California State University, Chico. He has taught at Chico since 1970. He received his Ph.D. from University of California, Berkeley. His dissertation is titled, Shonendan: Adolescent Peer Group Socialization in Rural Japan. Dr. Johnson has had the privilege of teaching at several universities in Japan and Korea, including Miyazaki International College, Waseda University, in Japan and Kyungpook National University, and Yeungnam University, in Korea. His main focus is with East Asian folklore (especially in Japan), child and adolescent behavior and folklore in the U.S. and new religions of Japan and Korea. Due to his varying research interests he has taught in many different programs and departments. Some of the departments and programs he has taught courses in are, anthropology, asian studies, english as a second language, geography, social science, and sociology. Throughout his career he has published extensively as well as presented many professional papers. This website is designed to give Dr. Thomas a new forum to share his research and interests with all those interested in anthropology, folklore, and asian studies. |
