Visions of Leadership
In this election season, it might be a time for our nation to reflect on the qualities of leadership. What characteristics. Gestures, facial features, are the indicators of these qualities in your opinion? How do you envision a leader? In this the line leader in an elementary school class, a person who stands up to be hears on a tough issue? The call for portraits of leadership can also include the political, social, and economic situations and events that bring out natural leaders. Who are the leaders of your family, neighborhood, and community? Show us and tell us what makes a leader in our world today.
Deadline: Friday, July 11, 2008
Fees: $25 for every 3 images submitted
(up to 9 from each entrant will be accepted)
CD Submissions: Images must be submitted by July 11, 2008. Clearly label the CD with your name, address, telephone and email address. Images should be high quality JPEG (no more than 300 dpi in RGB or grayscale) and should be no longer than 600 pixels on the longest side. Files should numbered and named: 01_Smith_TITLE.jpeg
Each image should have a sixty word statement explaining the significance of the work to the theme.
Framing: Framed photographs are due August 18, 2008. Framed artwork should be no more than 28 inches on the longest side. Artwork should be matted in white or cream and framed with black metal or wood frames. Please use Plexiglas or acrylic. No glass. All artwork should be ready to install with wire, please, NO saw-tooth hangers! Label all artwork. For more assistance on framing contact the museum.
Shipping: Selected artists are responsible for shipping their own work. A return shipping label should be included. Artwork should be packaged in a reusable shipping container and be sufficient for safe return. COD will not be accepted.
Our Judges: Three judges will serve on our panel; an anthropologist, a photographer/artist and a community member.
Exhibition: Selected prints will be displayed from September 2-26, 2008 in Kendal Hall. The grand opening and reception will be held Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at 5:00 pm.
Awards: The $500 Valene Smith Award for Excellence in Visual Anthropology will be given to the Best in Show. Three honorable mentions will be recognized.
