Anth 40 Magic, Witchcraft and Religion This course provides an overview of world-wide beliefs in regard to religion and the supernatural. Descriptive and theoretical perspectives on this topic are studied cross-culturally with special emphasis directed to non-Western societies. The common functions of religion in society are stressed by comparing the beliefs and practices among some of these numerous cultural groups with those of the Western world. Anth 305 Seminar in Museum Studies This course provides a holistic approach to the study of art from small-scale, non-Western sociteies. Theoretical views on this topic from the fields of anthropology, sociology, communication, art and art history will be examined. Special emphasis will be directed to the importance of descriptive ethnography to contextualize the art and its function and meaning within the culture it was created. The position artists hold in their societies will also be addressed. Throughout the course we will survey individual case studies of the role of art in culture, and generate cross-cultural comparisons between traditional and Western societies. From our findings we will discuss the implications this may have in museology, especially in the area of collections and collection management, and issues of representation in exhibiting these arts. Anth 205 Museum Administration This course discusses the principles of museum administration; including staffing, finances, educational programs, and ethics. Anth 261 Museum Collections Management This course offers practical training in collection management techniques; including registration methods, curatorial practices, and the care, preservation, and conservation of museum speciemens. Anth 288 A&B Exhibit Research and Design This course provides the methods and techniques needed for the research and design of museum displays. Please also see the requirements for:
