Meet the Staff
Dr. Georgia Fox, Museum Director, Professor
Dr. Georgia Fox was hired as faculty to the Department of Anthropology in 2001. As former head curator of the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum, Dr. Fox brings a wealth of practical knowledge and experience in exhibit planning, conservation, and collections management. As a faculty member in the Department of Anthropology, Dr. Fox is an archaeologist, whose areas of expertise include archaeological and ethnographic conservation, studies in material culture, historical archaeology, and maritime history and archaeology. Dr. Fox received her PhD from Texas A&M University in 1998. She has conducted extensive fieldwork abroad, in countries such as Greece, Turkey, the Netherlands, and Israel, and currently the eastern Caribbean. She serves as director of the Heritage Resources Conservation Laboratory on the Chico campus.
Dr. William Nitzky, Museum Studies Faculty
Dr. Nitzky was hired to teach courses in the Certificate in Museum Studies and in the Museum Studies Graduate Program, along with courses in cultural anthropology. His focus areas include cultural anthropology, ethnicity, heritage, museum studies, anthropology of tourism, identity politics, rural livelihoods and development, ethnography of the state and China and East Asia.
Adrienne Scott, Curator of Education
Adrienne has been the curator of the Museum of Anthropology since November 2001, but she has been in Chico since 1993 as a community volunteer and fundraiser for various local groups. Adrienne is originally from St. Louis, Missouri. She earned her degree in anthropology from Indiana University at Bloomington. After graduating, Adrienne went on to work at the Smithsonian Institution and the Museum of Science in Miami, Florida. In her love of museums, Adrienne has done everything from designing exhibits to writing grants and from teaching classes to public relations. Adrienne was named CSU, Chico Staff Employee of the Year in 2008. In May 2015 she received an MA in Curriculum and Instruction from the School of Education at CSU, Chico.
Heather McCafferty, Assistant Curator
Heather graduated with an MA in Anthropology with an Emphasis in Museum Studies with honors in 2008 from CSU, Chico. In 2010 she was hired as Museum Assistant at the museum where she supports exhibit installations, programming, events, marketing, public relations, membership, development, sustainability initiatives and daily operations. In June 2014 Heather was promoted to the position of Assistant Curator of the museum. Heather was the Curator of Exhibits at the Chico Museum for four years and has been an adjunct faculty instructor of Cultural Anthropology at Butte College since 2006. She has also taught anthropology courses at CSU, Chico.
