Sandy Parsons was appointed as the director of ARC in June 2006. Prior to her appointment, Sandy worked for the State of California Department of Rehabilitation since 1994, first as a counselor and later as a supervisor. In all, Sandy has more than 25 years of experience working with persons with disabilities, including as program director of an employment program for persons with disabilities administered by the Work Training Center, Inc, an administrator of a residential care facility, a recreation director, and an augmentative communication and behavioral intervention specialist.
Sandy is the Chico State Americans' With Disabilities Act Coordinator and as such, is responsible for the campus compliance with the Americans' with Disabilities Act and other disability laws, as well as, responsible to ensure accessibility and the provision of reasonable accommodations for for students, employees and visitors
Sandy is the project manager for the CSU, Chico’s implementation of the Accessible Technology Initiative and the Chair of the CSU, Chico’s Americans with Disabilities Act Committee. She also sits on various other campus committees, including the Behavioral Assessment Team.
Sandy has her BS in behavioral science and psychology from San Jose State University and her master’s in rehabilitation counseling from San Diego State University. She is a member of the Association on Higher Education and Disability, and the California Association on Postsecondary Education and Disability. Born and raised in the Bay Area, Sandy has lived in Chico for 25 years.
