Sandy Parsons is new to the CSU, Chico family. She was appointed as the director of ARC in June 2006. Prior to her appointment, Sandy worked for the State of California Department of Rehabilitation since 1994, first as a counselor and later as a supervisor. In all, Sandy has more than 20 years of experience working with persons with disabilities, including as program director of an employment program for persons with disabilities administered by the Work Training Center, Inc, an administrator of a residential care facility, a recreation director, and an augmentative communication and behavioral specialist.
Sandy is the project manager for the CSU, Chico’s implementation of the Accessible Technology Initiative and the vice chair of the CSU, Chico’s Americans with Disabilities Act Committee. She also sits on various other campus committees, including the Campus Climate Committee, Emergency Preparedness Committee, Diversity Scorecard, and the University Construction Advisory Committee. She is also a member of the Butte County Brain Injury Task Force.
Sandy has her BS in behavioral science and psychology from San Jose State University and her master’s in rehabilitation counseling from San Diego State University. She is a member of the Association on Higher Education and Disability, and the California Association on Postsecondary Education and Disability. Born and raised in the Bay Area, Sandy has lived in Chico for 19 years. Sandy is also active in Girl Scouts of America and is a Girl Scout troop leader.
