Mission Statement
The mission of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreational Sports at California State University, Chico is to provide a competitive NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletics program and a broad-based recreational sports program. The department will strive to provide student-athletes with a quality intercollegiate athletic experience that encourages their intellectual, physical, social and emotional growth in an environment that promotes academic and competitive success, fair play, sportsmanship, gender equity and cultural diversity. The department will encourage participation in sport by offering a wide variety of intramural, club and recreational programming opportunities for the general student population. By achieving these fundamental purposes the department enhances university life, contributes to the recruitment and retention of students, fosters pride in the university and strengthens university-community relations.
