Sharon played two seasons of volleyball 1977 and 1980. At 6', Sharon was well recognized for dominating the net as a middle blocker/middle hitter. Few in the game in those years could dominate the net as did Sharon Galligan. In 1980, she was named to the All-Golden State Conference First Team.
Though Sharon's first love was volleyball, she is best remembered for the contributions she made on the basketball court. Under the leadership and coaching of Fran Coslet, Sharon developed into an outstanding basketball player. She capped her career at CSU, Chico with a remarkable season in 1980-1981. In that year she was named to the All-golden State First Team and selected as the Golden State Player of the Year. The awards did not stop at the state level. Sharon was named an All-American in Basketball by the American Women's Sports Foundation, the only female west of the Mississippi to be honored. That same year Sharon was named CSU, Chico's Outstanding Senior Female Athlete.
This is Sharon's second Hall of Fame induction. She was inducted into the Yuba College Hall of Fame in 1999. Although no longer competing, Sharon has also won several Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in the sport of Volleyball in past Police Olympics.
